Idle.dll Error Repair Tips in PC Windows 7, Vista and XP

Yahoo! Messenger may fail to start with Idle.dll error. The following description can appear on your screen:
“Cannot start Yahoo! Messenger. A required component is missing: Idle.dll. Please reinstall the application again.”

The file Idle.dll is a module installed by Yahoo! Messenger. Whenever Yahoo! Messenger is running, the Idle.dll file continuously monitors the user activity on that machine. If it finds that the user has not performed any activity on his computer then it automatically sets his Yahoo! Chat Status as Idle. It also shows how long the user has been idling. Thus other users can understand that their instant messages may not be immediately replied by the user.

To solve the above mentioned problems do the following steps one by one:

Reinstall Yahoo! Messenger

Reinstalling Yahoo! Messenger deletes and re-copies all the program files. It may help fixing your problem.

Click Start, select Control Panel.
Click Programs, and then Uninstall a Program.
Select Yahoo! Messenger and click Uninstall button.
Download a fresh setup online and reinstall the product.

Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable

In some different cases, another file named Idle.dll file is a part of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. Reinstalling this package can resolve the issue.

Reregister Idle.dll File

Un-register and re-register the Idle.dll file. There can be some problems with the file registry entries.

Click Start, point to All Programs | Accessories.
Click Command Prompt.
Type the following command and press ENTER:
Regsvr32 /u idle.dll
A message box will appear telling DLL unregistration process has been succeeded.
Now type the following command and press ENTER:
Regsvr32 idle.dll
Reboot the machine by typing Shutdown /R and pressing ENTER.

Run System File Checker

Check out the status of your system files and restore original versions of corrupted  files. Open Command Prompt and type SFC /ScanNow and press ENTER.
